IV a. This project has intended to count on professionals from the three regions, a wide team that has integrated knowledge in archaeology and numismatics together with philological studies of the classics sources in order to provide a wide scope to the subject. </span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">The publication relies on with a wide variety of renowned professionals coordinated by the University of Cádiz Archeology professor , Alicia Arévalo González. From this university is as well the collaboration of the Greek Philology lecturer Joaquín Ritoré, as well as Dr. Elena Moreno’s. From the University of Málaga lecturer Bartolomé Mora and archeologist Ana Arancibia have participated as deep experts on the Malagan necropolis and its archeological context evolution. The working team is completed with Dr. Marta Campo, researcher of the Ibiza and Formentera Museum’s (MAEF) deposited funds , as well as Benjamí Costa and Jordi H. Fernández, MAEF’s manager and former manager respectively. Finally, the archeologist Ana Mezquida, contributes with her close expertise on the Ebusus necrópolis.</span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">The publication, organized in six chapters and two annexes, starts with the mandatory description of the employed methodology. This chapter mainly addresses the encountered issues when facing the coin study development within the funerary context. This situation is mainly originated, according to the researchers, as there are barely existing jobs focused on classifying, analyzing and systematizing the discoveries, which sets, as can be observed along the text, a very unlike outlook on each chosen necropolis. Data collection of the archeological context through reports and statements has been one of the most complicated tasks for the researchers, as it has been verified the existence of information losses and decontextualizing in the cash registers. Therefore, the integration of a useful systemization to the coin study is indeed one of the publication’s added values.</span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">The next three chapters of the monography are focused in the Ebusus, Gades and Malaca necropolises, where a detailed study of the coins appeared on each place is performed. Focusing in the case of Ibiza, positioned on a little mountainous massif on top of a hill, Puig de Molins is situated, a location that represented the island’s most important graveyard from the VII^th century B.C. until the Islamic Middle Ages. In this necropolis, researchers detail its different occupational stages, discovering that the most numerous coin findings appear in the late IV^th to III^rd centuries B.C. In the study, it is noted a larger number piece presence in the hypogeum and especially in the infantile burials, dating the most ancient discovered coins from Ampurias, from the V^th-IV^th centuries B.C.</span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">Concerning Gades, researchers shed light on the plentiful amount of discovered information and state the crucial moment of the coin presence within the II^nd-I^st centuries B.C., appearing in tombs, as well as in other places inside and outside the necropolis. A special feature is the greater use of the own coin compared to the foreign one. Pieces up to the IV^th century B.C. are present, but in smaller number. An enormous difference can be found when comparing to the Malagan necropolis’s coins, as in this one there are scant, where only five burials have been discovered with a total of 15 coins, compared to the 414 found in the graves from Gades. However, it shares with the Gaditan necropolis the use of local cash.</span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">A common feature among three locations is the appearance of other funerary or ritual purpose objects nearby the coins. In the text it is as well determined that there are no specific rules that regulate the positioning of the corpses.</span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">A key part of this multidisciplinary work can be found in the chapter dedicated to the classics source coin study. Therein, it can be observed how the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Charon’s obol</i> is deeply analyzed and how its symbology will be transformed from that period’s time until the Roman ages. The Hellenistic period is the moment when it is established that a clear ritual regarding the obols in the funerary world exists, as can be observed in the epigram of </span><span lang="EN" style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif; mso-ansi-language: EN;">Leonidas of Tarentum. Two kind of texts are examined within the study; on the one hand those that mention Charon, where the undergoing transformation of his own figure is deeply detailed; and on the other hand texts that specifically talk about coin are distinguished, noticing how its meaning is modified until being transformed into a kind of talisman.</span></div> <br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: "georgia" , serif;">Thus, the meticulous job edited by the UCA imprint, is an integrating work that, from this multidisciplinary point of view, comprehensively covers such a passionate and necessary subject for the knowledge of the funerary world. An essential basis text for forthcoming researches.</span></div> </div> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> </div> </span><br /> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> </div> </span></span><br /> <h2 style="text-align: justify;"> <br /><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><span style="color: #cc0000;"></span></h2>
